2009 OIG Work Plan -
What are the current risk areas in your practice?

The Office of Inspector General (OIG) Work Plan for 2009 (Effective September 2008) describes activities that the OIG plans to initiate or continue with the respect to the programs and operations of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The OIG carries out its mission of protecting HHS program integrity and beneficiary well-being by detecting and preventing waste, fraud and abuse by holding accountable those who violate program requirements. The OIG conducts audits, investigations and inspections and can and will impose monetary penalties and administrative sanctions. Over the last several years, the OIG has allocated 80% of its resources to reviews and investigations of the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

E-Prescribing –
Get paid for Sending Prescriptions Electronically

A new Medicare rule takes effect in January 2009 offering a 2% payment bonus to physicians who use e-prescribing. Electronic prescribing was accepted by Medicare in 2003, yet provider adoption rates have been low.

What is E-Prescribing? It is the process of utilizing software, EMR prescription module or stand-alone prescribing system, to write and transmit a prescription electronically to the pharmacy of the patient’s choice.

Provider reasons for slow adoption have been system costs, lack of incentives and the fear of being slowed down.

What are the benefits of E-prescribing?

Go Green – Recycle Electronics

Practice Partners Inc., participates in the Sony National Take Back Recycling Program in partnership with Waste Management.  An SUV loaded with old computers, monitors, printers, key boards, phone system, calculators, etc. were taken to Turner Field for recycling on Saturday, November 22.

Over 230,000 lbs of electronics were collected during this event helping to reduce the amount of landfill space needed and to reduce our carbon footprint.  We feel that it is our duty to our planet to recycle any materials possible and hope you do too.
